I thru-hiked the AT in 2014 (southbound) and stayed at Mountain Harbour Hostel after an extended day to avoid staying in a shelter during the coming rain. It was at Mountain Harbour that i met a dog named Leroy as I was paying for my stay (which I should add was incredible, refreshing and rejuvenating) the morning I was set to leave. Leroy had been a stray who followed hikers to Mountain Harbour a few months prior to my arrival and was nursed back to health by Mary Hill. She took care of him, and as soon as I met this dog I fell in love. Mary told me I could adopt him if I came back after I finished the Trail. I did, and he's arguably the best thing that's ever happened to me. Thank God for rainy days.
