    Elk Falls is the most impressive waterfall from a sheer volume standpoint in NE Tennessee/North Carolina border area. The plunge pool is extremely large and certain to be busy in the summer months. Downstream of the pool are a couple of short (~5 ft) cascades before the river levels out. Farther downstream is Twisted Falls. Note that topo maps identify waterfall as “Big Falls” and not Elk Falls. They are one and the same.

    Sycamore Shoals State Park

    The park offers an assortment of living history, recreational programming and events for the whole family from traditional arts and craft classes to military musters. The annual presentation of Tennessee’s Official Outdoor Drama, Liberty!. The Saga of Sycamore Shoals is a popular attraction.
