Roan Mountain is a small village nestled at the base of the mountains by the same name, which towers 6,285 feet above the community.
Roan Mountain is most well known for their beautiful Rhododendron Gardens located at the peak of the mountain which are at their peak bloom in late June. For over fifty years Roan Mountain has been the site of the Rhododendron Festival in June, usually held at the State Park. The months of March through July many other wildflowers are also in bloom. These include Bloodroot, Mayapple, Trillium, Catawba Rhododendron, Ramps, Mountain Laurel and Black Cohosh. The spring and summer temperatures are mild and tend to be in the 60’s. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 76.80 degrees.
Mountain Harbour Bed & Breakfast was originally opened in 2001. We purchased it in July 2003, and after some redecorating we welcomed our first guest August 21, 2003 for race weekend. We strive for our guests to feel welcome, to have comfort at every turn, and to have an island to escape to that is surrounded by nothing but relaxing countryside. Mountain Harbour Bed and Breakfast
After a long career in the aerospace industry, Terence and his wife Mary, decided to leave the hustle and bustle of southern California. In 2003 they purchased Mountain Harbour to pursue a second career as an Inn Keeper in the much slower paced town of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. For the past 10 years they have worked hard to ensure their bed and breakfast achieved and maintained the highest quality of service and hospitality .Along the way they have expanded to include a hostel to serve the hikers from the nearby Appalachian Trail. As a result of their high standards, the hostel has become a must stop for thru hikers on their quest to complete the 2175 mile trail.
After working as a nurse the Camarillo State Hospital and raising her childen, Mary and her husband Terence decided to leave the high stress enviroment of Southern California. With the children all finished with college a slower paced life was a welcome change. In 2003 they purchased Mountain Harbour to pursue a second career as an Inn Keeper in the much slower paced town of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. For the past 10 years they have worked hard to ensure their bed and breakfast achieved and maintained the highest quality of service and hospitality .Along the way they have expanded to include a hostel to serve the hikers from the nearby Appalachian Trail. As a result of her culinary abilities , her breakfast is talked about along the trail from Georgia to Maine. Breakfast at Mountain Harbour has become a must have for thru hikers on their quest to complete the 2175 mile trail.
After leavin the United States Marine Corps, Dave spent many years in the Trucking Industry. As Mountain Harbour has grown significantly over the past few years, Dave decided to leave his life on the road for a more permanent place to work.
Shannon has spent most of her career in Texas in the hospitality industry. Upon moving to Tennesse with Dave, she quickly became part of the family. Her experience in hospitality and her dedication to our guest’s experience at Mountain Harbour, has proved to be a valued asset.
