Roan Mountain is a small village nestled at the base of the mountains by the same name, which towers 6,285 feet above the community.

Roan Mountain is most well known for their beautiful Rhododendron Gardens located at the peak of the mountain which are at their peak bloom in late June. For over fifty years Roan Mountain has been the site of the Rhododendron Festival in June, usually held at the State Park. The months of March through July many other wildflowers are also in bloom. These include Bloodroot, Mayapple, Trillium, Catawba Rhododendron, Ramps, Mountain Laurel and Black Cohosh. The spring and summer temperatures are mild and tend to be in the 60’s. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 76.80 degrees.
